ASSAM FLOOD RELIEF CAMPAIGN 2020

ASSAM FLOOD RELIEF CAMPAIGN 2020
Sadique & Ameen Foundation | 17th July.
You can be the helping hand for 50 lakh people affected in Assam due to flood.
Heavy Rains hit and flood Assam every year. First flood came in June this year, but in July, this week flood has turned out very dangerous which flooded the Brahmputra and its network of tributaries. Nearly 50 Lakh people in 30 out of 33 districts have been affected till the date, taking the death toll to 78 till the time of writing this.
It is a worst condition in the times of COVID-19. Men, Women, children, cattle, livestock all crammed under tarpaulin sheets together seeking help and support. During this hard time of pandemic, these poor and helpless people have no scope to maintain a safe physical distance. For over 50 people, there’s just 1 tubewell and the government relief has come only once in past one month. This is a very critical situation going on in Assam, they badly need our support.
Flood has destroyed not only livestock and human settlements, but also vanished the standing crop in over 1.3 Lakh hectares of land.
As of now, total of 78 people have lost their lives due to the flood and 26 due to landslides in the state. Barpeta is the worst-hit district, with as many as 7.35 lakh people facing the brunt of the monsoon fury, followed by Goalpara, Morigaon, Nagaon and Hailakandi districts. Road connectivity to these areas in upper Assam has been cut off.
Ainal Haque, a 66-year-old farmer in Barpeta's Jaurimari village, has to feed a family of seven, but he has lost everything to the flood in the last one month - his hut, cattle, standing paddy in the fields and even the jute plantation. “We have been facing a series of floods for more than a month now. It has led to huge losses which we cannot recover with a small patch of land. I have lost more than Rs 2 lakh and I don't know how we will make ends meet” Mr. Haque told.
"Last month, the first wave of floods came for two-three days. Then the water went done and then there was sudden spike. We did not even get a chance to cut the standing ripe crop," another flood victim, Shanur Islam said.

The immediate needs of the flood affected people, as per the ground team are:
1. Ready to eat food
2. Drinking water
3. Clothes
4. Torches & Candles
5. Medicines
Sadique & Ameen Foundation has begun its flood relief crowdfunding work to support our teams working on an emergency basis in the field. We are also in touch of rapid action teams working there to support them with our crowdfunding and other help, like every emergency, this time also the very immediate requirements are food and shelter.
We sincerely appeal for urgent support and assistance in raising funds to help our brothers and sisters bearing the calamity in Assam. Donate for the poor flood-affected people of Assam. Your small contributions can make big impacts on them.
